Spring is well on it’s way! Buds and flowers are appearing on the trees, baby animals are arriving, acne is emerging…er..wait…what? Did you know Spring can be a time of some common skin issues? Issues like acne-breakouts, dry patches, redness and seasonal eczema flare-ups can increase during the Spring! If you’re one of the women who is experiencing any of these Spring skin issues then read on and I’ll give you some tips to help calm down those issues. If you are fortunate enough to not currently have any of these Spring skin issues, then you’ll want to keep reading to discover ways to help prevent them from beginning. Good news! Many times the prevention and cure are similar!
First of all we need to look at WHY? Why is Spring a prime time for these skin issues?
1. Temperature change: Acne is thought to be more common in warmer temperatures because the skin’s oil production becomes more active. Add to that
2. Changing seasons: Dead skin cells are typically present from dry winter skin which can also cause dry patches and redness. Oil becomes trapped under the dead skin cells and wallah….blocked pores and breakouts occur. Finally:
3. Different environmental exposure: The cause of eczema is not well understood yet, but according to www.nationaleczema.org, it is thought that it could be a combination of genes and a trigger. We can’t change our genes but we can help control triggers. More on possible triggers in a min.
So are you just stuck with dreading the possible skin issues that Spring can bring (or the itchy red skin that it may have already brought)? Not on my watch! Preventing common Spring skin ailments is what you’re doing already if you are following our simple skin care routine! In case you’re not familiar with our recommended skin care routine, or in case you’d like a review, here we go!
The simple skin care routine that we recommend already addresses all the issues we’ve identified above. By choosing to use just a few simple but highly effective items your skin can be protected as well as it possibly can be from the common Spring skin ailments mentioned above.
Here’s how:
Exfoliate 1-2X per week: Exfoliating the skin not only makes your skin nice and soft, but it allows the dead skin cells to be removed, clearing it from toxins. This allows your skin to breathe and keeps oil from becoming trapped, resulting in fewer blocked pores and breakouts. The week before last I announced our sugar scrubs are back in stock just in time to start using them 1-2X per week. Exfoliating helps prevent (or correct if you’re already experiencing common Spring skin issues) but scrubs are only needed 1-2X per week if using goat milk facial & body bars daily. Remember…simplify by using a few high-quality, highly effective products.
Cleanse: A fantastic way to gently exfoliate on a smaller scale daily is by using a facial and body soap with goat milk and sea salt. The goat milk has alpha-hydroxy-acids, which gently help slough off those dead skin cells. Plus goat milk, remember, has the ability to help your skin retain it’s own moisture. Then the sea salts in the facial bar gently helps rid your skin of dead cells plus they are loaded with minerals! Our handmade bar soaps work with your skin by cleansing without stripping the natural oils from your skin, protecting it from skin damage. Because I am a firm believer that the best skin care can be very simple and because I like to combine steps when possible, the goat milk soaps very gently exfoliate and clean (whether it’s the face or body) at the same time, just like the sugar scrubs exfoliate and moisturize at the same time. The sea salt bars are gentle enough to use every day and there are 2 types with different essential oil combinations to choose from as well as 2 sizes: a facial bar and a body bar. But if you don’t like the texture of our sea salt bars, all of our soaps contain goat milk, a gentle exfoliator.
Protect: Once your skin has been cleaned it can be vulnerable. Although the goat milk in the soap helps your skin to retain it’s own moisture, and although we use oils and butters to help provide extra nutrition to your skin while cleansing, the soap gets washed off and therefore you need an added layer of protection to guard and even to go a step further and seal in that extra nurturing of your skin to be the most fresh and beautiful it can be. This extra step is also a great barrier so that your skin is not as easily effected by environmental triggers. Face Renewal is what we recommend to nurture, protect and defend the delicate skin on your face.
This is going to be a little long, but stick with me here. I think it’s important that you know what goes into your skin care and WHY we recommend this so that you can see if it is a good fit for you in order to prevent or help correct any skin care issues. Your skin is worth it! BUT if you already know all you need to know about the Face Renewal, you can skip down to the
TOOLS section at the bottom.
The main ingredient in our Face Renewal is ORGANIC ARGAN OIL, which is loaded with natural vitamin E & vitamin A, soaks deep into the skin without being greasy or irritating, doesn’t clog pores, is safe to use around the eyes and is known for reducing fine lines and is considered to be “anti-aging”. Did you know that argan oil is also known to regulate the skin’s oil production, helping it to produce just the right amount for the skin’s immediate needs? It’s high linoleic acid content also means that it helps to reduce inflammation (ie puffiness) and redness. Can you see why we love using argan oil as the main ingredient in our Face Renewal moisturizer?
SWEET ALMOND OIL is the next ingredient in Face Renewal. It’s considered a “hypo allergenic” oil and is also known for protecting skin from UV radiation damage. (NOTE: There is NO sunscreen in Face Renewal). Did you know that sweet almond oil can also help dislodge debris from skin pores and follicles, reducing future acne outbreaks? Sweet almond oil is also a natural remedy for eczema and psoriasis because it reduces inflammation, redness and itchiness of the skin.
CALENDULA OIL is the next ingredient and is known for being anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, but did you know that it also is a highly effective treatment for chapped, dry skin, reduces pain and inflammation of the skin and is therefore also a recommended natural treatment for eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions?
A proprietary blend of 5 THERAPEUTIC GRADE ESSENTIAL OILS that are known for skin health and more (like ylang-ylang which is known for skin health but is also known for producing an overall calming effect…. do you know anyone that might benefit from a calming essential oil? :)) rounds out our basic face moisturizer that is anything but “basic”. It IS “basic” in that it is made from simple, pure & wholesome ingredients chosen to be highly effective on any skin type and not contain any additives, chemicals, or possible triggers. Face Renewal is a perfect choice for both people with known skin issues as well as for those wanting to bring out the best in their skin.
That’s it! That’s the SIMPLE SKIN CARE ROUTINE that we recommend. DAILY CLEANSE, DAILY PROTECT and then periodically deep EXFOLIATE.
Here are a few additional tips as well as those further notes on triggers I promised above:
BE A LABEL READER! Many skin care products have additives that can flare up skin issues! Chemical additives used for scent, color, thickening, increased lathering, etc. can be triggers not only for seasonal eczema but can be a source of dryness, irritation and redness with any skin type. Did you know that chemical fragrances and dyes in skin care products many times are culprits for actually drying skin out further?
NOT ALL SOAPS ARE CREATED EQUAL! Even in handmade soaps you need to be a label-reader. It’s a natural thought process to think that any handmade soap must be ok because it’s homemade, however even in handmade soaps, there can still be those chemical additives, chemical fragrances, and use of cheaper oils that can be triggers for skin issues, especially with the extra environmental challenges of Spring. All of our soaps ONLY contain wholesome ingredients like essential oils, plant fragrances, natural coloring, rich butters &oils and goat milk that gently clean while leaving your skin refreshed and protected. Plus we are committed to disclosing every ingredient in our products so that YOU can make the choice of what you want to put on your skin!
LESS IS MORE! Although it can be fun to add in some beauty treatments now and then, save the extras for a time when your skin doesn’t have the extra challenges. Sticking with a simple basic routine with wholesome ingredients is a great way to show your skin some extra love and protection during seasonal changes.
You were created beautiful! Taking care of your beautiful skin doesn’t have to be complicated, costly, or take a lot of time! Common Spring skin care issues don’t need to be a bother or a worry. You just need the right TOOLS.
We’ve put together the basic tools you need to complete the simple skin care routine, in a kit, at a reduced price, called the Spring Skin Care Kit. When you go to the link you’ll have the choice to add which type of goat milk soap and which type of goat milk sugar scrub you’d like in your kit.
Here’s to sunshine and flowers, new beginnings and your beautiful skin-yea Spring!

PS. Still a bit cool and not feeling so much like Spring yet where you are? We’ve had the heat on so much here still that I’m still using body butters too, to protect and moisturize everywhere that I don’t use the Face Renewal. If that’s you too, our Rescue Kit contains a body butter instead of a sugar scrub and even though our body butters are a seasonal item, they are still available for a little longer.
